The Luton Ark
For over 20 years NOAH has carried out its work from a range of well loved, but increasingly obsolete buildings across Luton.
NOAH's vision for the future is a new building with all existing services combined under one roof and new services to fill in the gaps in current provision.
Thanks to the support of Luton Borough Council, Aldwyck Housing Association, East of England Development Agency, Communities and Local Government, The Irish Abroad Unit of the Irish Government, Futurebuilders and various government and trust funding agencies, this vision is now coming to fruition with Full Planning Consent plans for a 3,000m2 site in High Town granted in 2007.
This new building will provide a permanent home for all NOAH's main services as well as offering new services such as supported accommodation and a hostel providing accommodation that is not readily available in the local area. In particular, the building will accommodate those who are currently suffering addiction as well as those in recovery - giving us the opportunity to reach and support more people living in deprivation.
The building is regarded by Government as a flagship project being unique in its combination of services that combine in a single holistic approach to people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. One of the aspirations for the building is to make it a One Stop Shop. Already in this respect the Bedfordshire and Luton Mental Health Care Trust are bringing their ACE Enterprise workshop onto one floor of the Ark. We will look to attract other organisations that have complementary services.
We are calling this building of sanctuary and new opportunity The Luton Ark.
