The Luton Winter Emergency Shelter Appeal
On Monday 29th November 2010 we took the decision that we had to provide some form of emergency shelter for people sleeping rough in Luton. There is simply no way they can be left to sleep outside when it is this cold.
And so NOAH Enterprise has opened a winter night shelter for those people who are homeless, with the Salvation Army generously providing the premises and St John's Ambulance providing medical back-up.
Can You Help Us?
We need:
- Sleeping bags
- Blankets
- Winter clothing
- Food - tinned or dry, fresh or frozen as long as it is within its use by date and in undamaged packaging
- Games and books
NOAH receives no public funding to operate this shelter. We are entirely reliant on the generosity of others to provide this life saving service.
Volunteers Needed
We also urgently need volunteers. This is no easy assignment. We need volunteers every night to (a) prepare and serve food from 6pm to 10pm and (b) to assist our staff to run the overnight shelter from 10pm until 7.30am the next morning. If you could spare one evening or night per week and be part of our team you would be making a massive contribution.
And Finally
There are, for our charity, significant expenses involved in running a project like this. So if you feel able to donate financially we would be most grateful, and you can do this by sending a cheque made payable to NOAH Enterprise at 141 Park Street, Luton, LU1 3HG or by using the Donate Now button on this website to make a credit or debit card payment.
If you can help in any other way please call us on 01582 728416 or email us at
About Rough Sleeping in Extreme Cold Weather

Some of the physical impacts of the cold include:

Rough sleepers died during the cold snap earlier this year. This can not and will not happen in Luton.
